Just don’t eat the last biscuit…
Just don’t order the takeaway…
Just push yourself to go for a jog…
Just finish that book…
Just seek out new customers for your business…
Just can seem like such a dismissive word when used as above. Is it easy to just not? When you consider the habits you’ve built over the years and the behaviours that remain with you…if someone tells you just don’t, does that set you up for success? What if the person telling you this is yourself? What if you’re in the boxing ring with yourself? You’re trying to beat yourself into having self-control but there is no balance.
In 2024, I am seeking to find the answers. Of course, discipline, self-mastery and self-control are the stepping stones needed for greatness. Imagine if the greatest leaders and the trailblazers couldn’t focus their energy on the right things. So, I’ll look into their stories, read a lot of books and consider how I can take action in my own life. When 2025, comes along I want to know I’ve made great strides in the areas of my life that really need it.
So think of this as an introduction to the new year. Maybe you’ve got a New Year’s resolution and maybe it’s the same as last year. Or maybe you’re fed up and given up on it. Consider this to be your accountability buddy. We’re in this together.
A note about perfectionism; wanting everything to be perfect will trip you up. Think of this as our messy journey to reaching the other side of what we want. Getting it right is a tightrope walk. It’s easy to go completely to the other side of what you’re facing. You go from being undisciplined to being rigid and unbending and then it backfires. Trust me, it happened to me. So now I have to start again.
With all this in mind, let’s begin. And…Happy New Year when it comes.
